Auditory Rehabilitation
In the 1940's, when audiology was in its infancy and before hearing aid technology was beneficial, audiologists performed exercises and listening tasks with patients in order to improve their listening skills. When hearing aid technology improved, it provided much greater satisfaction, and auditory rehabilitation was left behind.
But just as computers have improved hearing aids, they have now also improved auditory rehabilitation. Today, patients can perform the exercises in comfort of their own home in a fraction of the time that was previously required. What's more, recent research indicates significant improvement for patients who use the therapy with hearing aids and without hearing aids.
